Perhaps the most defining feature of the modern lesbian public space is its expanding definition. Gone are the rigid gatekeeping politics of the past. Contemporary spaces are increasingly defined by an intersectional lens that centers trans women, non-binary individuals, and people of color.

As physical lesbian bars have dwindled in number across the globe, the "lesbian public" has migrated online. Social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and "Lex" (an app inspired by old-school personal ads) have created a virtual public sphere.
