Hopes Steel Windows

The company’s inaugural project was for Prudence Risley Hall at Cornell University in 1912.

There is a tragic irony in the "steel window" of hope. If the hope is too rigid—if the steel is too thick—it becomes a prison. We lock ourselves inside a viewpoint that cannot bend. We stare out at a future that refuses to arrive in the shape we have framed for it. The steel that was meant to protect our view becomes the bars that trap our vision. We wait for a sunrise that never quite aligns with the angle of our aperture. hopes steel windows
