Everyone drives to the Battery Mendell tunnel. Instead, park at the Rodeo Beach parking lot and walk west along the coastal trail. You will find a single, weathered railroad tie sticking out of the eroding cliff. It’s the last remnant of a WWII military railway. Standing here feels like standing on a crack in time.
