Entering the final year of the original "turbo era," McLaren secured the Honda RA168E V6 engine , effectively poaching the powerhouse supplier from the reigning champions, Williams. Designed by Steve Nichols (with input from Gordon Murray), the MP4/4 featured a radical low-slung chassis that improved aerodynamics and lowered the center of gravity.
