If you don't have Adobe After Effects, there are a few alternative methods to open .aep files:
I realized that the .aep file is flexible. I right-clicked the missing footage files in the Project panel, selected "Replace Footage," and pointed them to low-resolution proxies I quickly downloaded from the client’s shared drive. The .aep file didn't care about quality; it just wanted something in that slot.
