: Use the original melody of a classic game but replace the 8-bit sounds with modern orchestral or electronic VSTs.

MIDI is a protocol, not a sound engine. A MIDI file playing through the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth sounds vastly different from the same file playing through a Roland SC-55. This creates the "Timbral Fidelity Problem" in VGM preservation. vgm midi
