Soundfonts have become an essential tool in music production and sound design, allowing artists to access a wide range of high-quality audio samples. However, traditional soundfonts are typically limited in size, often containing only a few hundred to a few thousand samples. This restricts their creative potential, as artists are forced to rely on a fixed, finite set of sounds. Moreover, the process of creating and maintaining large soundfonts is time-consuming and labor-intensive, requiring significant resources and expertise. Journal of Music and Sound Design, 3(1), 1-15
Soundfonts are collections of audio samples used in music production and sound design. Traditional soundfonts are limited in size and scope, restricting their creative potential. In this paper, we propose the concept of a Giant Soundfont, a large-scale, comprehensive framework for generating and utilizing massive soundfonts. We discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by such a system, outline its architecture, and provide a proof-of-concept implementation. Our results demonstrate the feasibility and benefits of a Giant Soundfont, paving the way for new applications in music production, sound design, and beyond.
