If you are an operator or facility manager, you cannot change the transformer’s internal design. But you can manage the risk:
Maximum asymmetry occurs if the fault initiates when the voltage wave crosses zero. Because the current in an inductive circuit lags the voltage by approximately 90 degrees, the current should be at its peak when voltage is zero. However, the current cannot change instantaneously.
