Released in July 2006, The Ant Bully — based on the 1999 children’s book by John Nickle — had a modest budget (~$50 million) and earned roughly $55 million worldwide. It wasn’t a flop, but it wasn’t a blockbuster. Over time, it faded from public consciousness.

DNA Productions closed its animation facility shortly before the film's release. This makes the Archive's work critical, as it tracks down materials from a studio that no longer exists in its original form.

Because the film never got a major re-release or 4K restoration, many extras from the DVD (commentaries, featurettes, galleries) have become hard to find — hence the need for a fan archive.
