Straplez — Arete ((better))
Straplez Arete isn’t trying to shout over streetwear or replace the little black dress. It’s solving a specific, universal annoyance: the strap that slips, the fit that fails, the constant tug at your shoulder.
In a fashion landscape crowded with fast trends and fleeting micro-aesthetics, one name is quietly building something different: . straplez arete
. Length: Approximately 200 meters (5–6 pitches). Rock Type: Solid, golden "Chamonix Granite." Approach: One of the easiest in the Alps. You take the Aiguille du Midi cable car from the center of Chamonix, exit the ice tunnel, and abseil down the South Face to the base. The Climbing Experience The route is characterized by steep, finger-crack systems and technical face climbing. The Start: The route usually begins with a pitch of steady cracks that help you adjust to the thin air (you are starting at nearly 3,800 meters). The Crux: The mid-section features the "strapless" feel—delicate footwork on small crystals and friction-dependent slab moves that require a calm head and precise balance. The Finish: Most climbers choose to top out directly onto the tourist terraces of the Aiguille du Midi. It is a surreal experience to pull over the final granite block, covered in chalk and gear, to the sound of cameras clicking and tourists asking where you came from. Preparation and Gear Altitude: Even though the approach is short, the altitude is significant. Rapid ascent via the cable car can lead to breathlessness; take it slow on the first two pitches. Rack: A standard rack of nuts and a double set of cams (small to medium) is recommended. The route has some fixed bolts, but it is not a "sport climb." Timing: The South Face gets plenty of sun, making it climbable even when the north faces are iced up. However, watch for the "last bin" (the final cable car down), as missing it means an expensive night at the Cosmic Hut or a very long walk. Why Climb It?
