On January 1, 2024, the Netherlands witnessed one of the most significant overhauls of its construction regulatory framework in a century. The Wet kwaliteitsborging voor het bouwen (Wkb) replaced the traditional system of municipal building permits ( omgevingsvergunning ) for low-risk construction projects with a private, risk-oriented quality assurance system.
