The metropolitan area faces a significant infrastructure deficit relative to its population growth. Current transit lines operate at or above design capacity during peak hours, resulting in platform overcrowding and service delays. The MRT-3 project is conceptualized as the "spine" of the inner-city transit network, operating as a high-volume corridor.
