The AssetExplorer Agent operates on a "pull" or "push" mechanism depending on your configuration. Once installed on a target machine (Windows, Linux, or Mac), the agent agent gathers raw inventory data, bundles it, and sends it to the central AssetExplorer server over a secure HTTP/HTTPS protocol (usually port 80/443 or a custom port).
